| WTCH Bergert's Black
Ariesz of Z RTDs, ASCA and AKC TD I started training Ez with James Bergert of BWAS kennel. At that time they had a litter of puppies from Bud and Racey. I wasn't looking for another aussie when I went to play with the 5 day old puppies. He immediately appealed to me. Even at 5 days, this little "guinea pig" looking puppy had something special about him. I think Racey knew she gave me this look that said, "Be good to him or I will get you". I went home asked Joe if he like black tris. He knew from my tone that we were getting another dog. He asked if he could at least meet this "special guy" before we commit. When they reached 7 weeks he came and visited, agreed Ariesz was special and would be a part of our pack. This little boy packs a punch! He is not for the faint of heart. He has incredible drive, stamina, herding ability, and personality. He was a lot for me to learn to handle and train on stock. He likes to work close and FAST!!!! He is far more talented in gauging his stock than I could hope to ever be. I am learning to trust him and watch my stock. He will always put himself in the right position. We just need to slow down. The goal in an ASCA stock trial is to move the stock in a slow and calm manner. (He obviously hasn't read that part yet.) Now that we have our own sheep and ducks I expect great things from this young dog. He loves to work and never quits. He is a tracking maniac and loves his stinky gloves. (I learned a lot from Ez concerning article indication). He tries to find them as fast as he can and drops down in front of the article, looks at me, wiggles his nub, grabs it and brings it to me. We were going to work on TDX but I need to wait until he slows down a bit. He is a little too fast to be trudging thru trees and over fences for me to have fun. We are going to work on VST instead. There is less chance of me getting whacked in the head with a tree limb. He is an incredible little stock dog with a lot of heart. He is the most content when he is working sheep, staring at the ducks in their enclosure or chasing balls. He is great with adults and children with an intense dislike of Golden Retrievers. (One stole a ball from him when he was 6 months old. In his mind it was quite traumatic.) |
